MORDECAI PALDIEL

Born 1937, in Antwerp, Belgium – during the war years my family fled to France, and in 1943, crossed into Switzerland.
Dr. Paldiel studied at the Hebrew University, Jerusalem (Economics and Political Science), and Temple University, Philadelphia (M.A. and Ph.D. specializing in Religious and Holocaust studies).
For 24 years, from November 1982 to March 2007, he headed the Righteous Among the Nations Department, at Yad Vashem, Jerusalem, researching and honoring non-Jews rescuers of Jews during the Holocaust.
Dr. Paldiel has written extensively on rescue during the Shoah – books as well as numerous articles on this theme in various professional journals. He also lectured widely in Israel, United States and Europe, on the theme of the Righteous honored by Yad Vashem.
In January 2013, Dr. Paldiel was the keynote speaker at the UN annual Holocaust commemoration.
He also taught the Holocaust and History of Zionism at Yeshiva University, Touro College and Stern College, as well as the Holocaust at Drew University and Queens College.
Dr. Paldiel is also a board member of the Sousa Mendes Foundation and the Israel-based Committee for Honoring Jewish Rescuers of Jews.
Dr. Paldiel currently lives in Boca Raton, Florida. He is married to Rachel, the father of three children and five grandchildren.
